 CITIUS, ALTIUS, FORTIUS

Meaning

Citius altius fortius is a Latin expression meaning "faster, higher and stronger", and is known to be the motto of the Olympic Games.

The Olympic motto citius altius fortius symbolizes, along with the Olympic torch and the five Olympic rings of different colors intertwined, the Olympic spirit.
The motto was pronounced for the first time by the Dominican father Henri Didon at the inauguration of a sporting school event in 1881 in which the founder of the Olympic Games of the modern era Pierre de Coubertin (1863-1937) was present. It is there that the Baron de Coubertin has the idea of adopting it as an Olympic motto in the creation of the International Olympic Committee.
